The official Chamber of Commerce website. Castroville
is a historic little town nestled in the Medina River Valley 15 miles west
of San Antonio. Rich in history, the town was founded in 1844 by Henri
Castro and a small group of colonists mostly from Alsace, France.
The
"Little Alsace of Texas" has much to offer including mouth-watering
dining, shopping, antique stores and
cozy
accommodations. For
some exercise, put on your walking shoes, follow the signs, and take a
self-guided walking tour which highlights the many historic homes and sites around town.
Visit the Regional Park which features 126
wooded acres on the Medina River. It's a great place for a picnic or for
taking a walk along one of the Hiking Trails. Visit our

Castroville was recently the first recipient of the First Lady's Texas
Treasures Award, created by the Texas Historical Commission and the Office
of the First Lady, Mrs. Anita Perry. The award "honors historic communities
that have shown high level of creativity and ingenuity in recognizing and
preserving their authentic sense of place and have shown sustainable efforts
to preserve their heritage and community through their participation with
