2010 Board of Directors

The Board Members work closely with the City of Castroville and strive to promote a positive growing business community. They show leadership by participating and leading various events in town and promoting local businesses through marketing and public relations. Have something you'd like to see done in the Chamber? Gary Carter, Chamber President*

Owner, Castroville Cafe & The Station

Although Gary is not a native Castrovillian, you would think he was. Originally from Georgia, Gary has lived and worked in Castroville for 7 years. He owns and operated the very popular Castroville Cafe and The Station, a gift and antique shop. He has been a member of the board for two years and recently took over the chair of the education committee and is a huge help in raising money for the Chamber.

Teri Barrow, Chamber Vice President*

Friends of the Castroville Regional Park

Teri Barrow has lived in Castroville for the past few years and quickly jumped right in joining many organization and helping where she was needed. She has been a member of the Chamber Board for two years. She spends her time working as a travel agent, tourism consultant and instructor. She is married and has two dogs.

Janet Bednarz, Chamber Secretary/Treasurer*

Loan Operations, Castroville State Bank

Janet is a Castroville native who serves as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Chamber. She has been a Board Member for three years. Before joining Castroville State Bank, she worked for San Antonio based company USAA for 25 years. She is married and has two adult children.

Frank Danna

Owner/Operator, Frank Danna, D.D.S.

Dr. Frank Danna was born in Beaumont, Texas and raised in Big Foot, Texas.  He has been a member of the Castroville Chamber of Commerce since 1996 and has served as a director for four years. He is a graduate of Devine High School and a 1992 graduate of UTHSC Dental School. He has practiced dentistry in Castroville since 1996 when he purchased the practice from Dr. Robert Reed. Previously he served in the United States Air Force where he received training through a General Practice Residency program. He and his staff moved into their new dental office in October of 2007 located at 1313 Petersburg Street just behind the Castroville Post Office.  Dr. Danna has been married to his wife, Carmen Rivas Danna, since 1972 and they have three children,  Frank III, Paul Carlo and wife, Jessica, and Kathryn Concepcion.

Justin Haby

Owner, J.H. Storey Construction

Justin is a Castroville native who joined the Chamber Board in 2010. He is a 1999 graduate of Medina Valley High School and a 2003 Graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Construction Science. He has owned and operated his own Construction company for the past five years and specializes in new home construction and remodels. He resides in Castroville with his wife Sarah and their son Joseph.

Suzanne Heiligman

Assistant Vice President, Community National Bank

Suzanne has been a Chamber Director for three years and currently chairs the Old Fashion Christmas Committee. She a native of Castroville and has worked for Community National Bank for 15 years. She is a graduate of Bee County College and Texas Bankers Association Banking School. Suzanne is married to a Medina County native, Craig Heiligman, who is a former Chamber President. They have two children, Megan and Weston. Suzanne continues to stay active in her community and her children’s school events.  She takes great pride in serving her community through the Chamber as well as other volunteer activities where her family ties are.

Owner/Agent, State Farm Insurance

Carol Ruhaak

Branch Manager/Escrow Officer, Stewart Title San Antonio Division

Carol recently became a Chamber Board member in May of 2010, although she is no stranger to the Chamber Board. She served on the Board from 2004-2007 and held numerous positions including President, Vice President, Education Committee Chair and Casino Night Committee Chair. She is originally from Galveston but has resided in the Castroville are for 16 years. She attended Alvin Community College, receiving an associate’s degree in Court Reporting and is currently attending South University to obtain a paralegal degree. Most weekends you can find her spending time with her two sons, Zac, age 16 and Preston, age 13.

Myra Schneider

Bookkeeper, Bourquin Automotive

Myra is one of the newest members of the Chamber Board, joining us in October of 2008. She has lived in Castroville for 34 years, but grew up only 8 miles from where she now lives. She works full-time at Bourquin Automotive, which is owned by her husband Robert and his brother. Her and Robert have two children, Courtney and Adam. She is very active in her community participating in St. Ann’s Altar Society, MV Soccer Association, MV Youth Baseball Association, MV Education Foundation and has served on the St. Louis Catholic School Board. She enjoys gardening, quilting, and traveling with her husband on their Harley motorcycle.

Joseph Winkler

Owner, Hotel Alsace and Spa

Although he's not a Castroville native, Joseph was born and raised just a stone's throw away in Hondo, Texas, and has resided in Castroville since July 2005. He currently owns and operates the Hotel Alsace and Spa and is part owner in the Alsatian Restaurant located in the Hotel. He has a Bachelor's of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin and is married with three children.
